How to Apply
We encourage high school seniors or college students of Marshallese, Micronesian, and Palauan heritage who exemplify the life and values of Dr. Joakim Peter to apply for this scholarship. All selected scholarship recipients will be inducted into our A+JOJO Scholars Program which includes a one-time $1,500 financial award and on-going mentorship and professional development opportunities during their college career. Please review the helpful tips below before you apply.
Before You Apply
ELIBILITY
Did you check the eligibility requirements for this scholarship? College students or high school seniors who have been accepted to a college who trace their roots to FSM, RMI, or Palau, are in good standing at their institution and enrolled for the fall term.
PROOF OF ENROLLMENT
Make sure you have an electronic copy of your proof of enrollment (acceptance letter or Fall class schedule) from your college or university. You will be required to upload a copy with your online application.
REFERENCE
Be sure to have the name, email, and phone number for a character reference, i.e. someone who can vouch for you (if you’re a top finalist). This person can be a current or former teacher, supervisor, pastor, mentor, counselor, etc. as long as they are not in your family.
PREPARE YOUR RESPONSES
We highly recommend you prepare your application using our Scholarship Application Worksheet before filling out the actual application form when it opens on April 9th. Be sure to ask someone to proofread your responses in the worksheet before copy them into the online form.
PERSONAL STATEMENTS
BIOGRAPHY: Jot down some key points of your story and why you are the right candidate for the scholarship.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: Make a list of all your past and current experiences in serving your community including your island, school, church, village, town…either individually or through an organization or club. These community services can be paid or volunteer options.
LEADERSHIP: Make a list of all your leadership experiences in school, church, community including relevant hobbies, awards, volunteer or employment.
INSPIRATION: Do some research to learn about the late Dr. Joakim “Jojo” Peter and his contribution to our COFA community. Write down what inspires you most about Jojo’s life and work.
LEGACY PROJECT: Think about a topic or need in your community that you are most passionate about solving. You’ll be asked to propose a project that you want to pursue as part of your legacy building project in the A+JOJO Scholar Program. Click here for some ideas.

NOTIFICATIONS:Finalists will be notified by email and phone call on July 30th and their profiles, bios, and photos will be posted on our website (www.ajojoscholars.org) and social media.
FUNDING: The scholarship fund will be processed by We Are Oceania (WAO) non-profit organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii and the check will be sent directly to your institution for payment towards your academic expenses.
CONFIRMATION: Make sure you enter a valid email address on your application form where a confirmation of receipt and all other correspondence will be sent.
DEADLINE: Application opens on April 9th and closes on June 1st at 11:59 pm (PST)
