Our Mission
The mission of the Dr. Joakim Peter Memorial Scholarship is to keep the memories and legacy of Dr. Joakim “Jojo” Peter alive among the next generation of youth leaders who trace their roots to the Compact of Free Association (COFA) nations of the FSM, RMI, and Palau.
Dr. Joakim Peter, commonly known as Jojo, inspired many people throughout the Micronesian region and in Hawaiʻi with his value of being a “man for others.” He lived a life of selfless service to the COFA community as an educator, administrator, activist, scholar, researcher, teacher, speaker, healthcare advocate, and above all a humble friend, mentor, brother, uncle to many.
The Dr. Joakim Peter Memorial Scholarship provides funding to an emerging leader from the COFA community pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at an accredited college or university who exemplify the life and values of community service of Dr. Joakim Peter.
