The fact that Dr Joakim Peter, a humble being from the small islands of Chuuk, made quite an impact on his family, himself and his country, inspires me to do the exact same. I want to create an everlasting impact on my country and others as well.

Community Service

In junior college, I was a tutor in the Upward Bound Program. This program provides students the opportunities and extra learning to succeed in their pre-college performances and potential higher educations. The program serves high students from low income families and whose parents neither hold a bachelor’s degree. It was an after-school program with a mixture of students from each high school on the island. Along with the responsibility of being a tutor, I also facilitated classes, when we were short staffed. It’s all a great experience and opportunity to invest in my knowledge into those who need it. At a church I attended, I have participated in leading the prayer sessions for kids, also known as Sunday School. As part of a church youth group, I had to participate in organizing bake sales, facilitating Sunday school sessions, and including leading group prayer sessions as well.

Being an A+ Scholar will open up more opportunities to expand my services to the community. I believe in hard work and perseverance. Without these two values, I would not have been where I am today. I have worked hard to pave my way to achieve my desired goal and persevered through any type of obstacles. I plan to keep working hard and preserve my perseverance until I am satisfied that I have acquired all my goals.

Legacy Goals

There are very few scholarships dedicated to Micronesian specifically. Those few but beneficial scholarships continue to help Micronesian students throughout the world pursue their academic goals and higher education. This particular scholarship is significant because it highlights some of the standards that I value and live by; resiliency and hard work. I have always valued education. I believe getting an education gets you just as far, but without being perseverance and hard working, it won’t be as rewarding. My whole life revolves around education and trying to find ways to better my country. It has been my passion to give back to my country and Dr. Peter is a perfect example of that. He did something to give back to his country and now with this scholarship, it is able to allow students to do the same, which is commendable.

My career plan has been set far back as I can remember. I have always been sure of what I envisioned my career and the pathway to it. My passion for helping people automatically indicated what I want to become. I understand that there are countless ways to help, however, I am adamant that helping the sick is the best help there is. I am in this academic journey to achieve the knowledge and experience I can in order to carry out this passion. I want to give back to my country and people by helping cure them. There are insufficient medical doctors in our general hospital and I am determined to make a change.
